Students whose majors are Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, or Computer Engineering will always have accounts in the CSIF.
However, students whose majors are not one of those listed above must be enrolled in at least one Computer Science course to have CSIF accounts. These accounts will remain active as long as the students continue to enroll in at least Computer Science course, or when the students change their major to the one of those listed above. Waitlisted students for Computer Science courses do not get accounts automatically, and must contact us if they wish to receive an account for the time being. If students outside of the listed majors no longer enroll in at least one Computer Science course, then the account remains active for only one extra quarter, after which it becomes deactivated. Once a student’s account becomes deactivated, their files are lost even if the student receives a CSIF account at a later time.
Students with accounts in the CSIF face disk quotas, which are restricted allocations of storage space. The quotas help foster proper file management techniques and prevents students from taking up too much storage space.
The default quota for a undergraduate student with a CSIF account is 2GB with a maximum of 10000 files.
To perform a check on quota, simply login to any CSIF computer and type in “quota” without quotes in a terminal.
To manage quota, login to any CSIF computer and type in “fquota” without quotes in a terminal; that will run a script named fquota which finds and prompts the user for removal of unnecessary system files. More information can be found under the Quota section of the CSIF FAQ.
Students with accounts in the CSIF also face print quotas. The quotas help reduce unnecessary paper waste.
The default print quota for every account on the CSIF is 200 pages.
The 200 page count refers to the printing of 200 actual paper pages, so students can preserve quota by printing double-sided. Consult the Printing section of the CSIF FAQ to learn how to print double-sided.
Every quarter, the print quota for every account gets reset to 200 pages. More information can be found under the Printing section of the CSIF FAQ.
