  Computer Science Equipment Removal Procedure

Purpose: This procedure should be used for equipment that is no longer needed by Faculty, Staff, or Researchers. The removal of equipment from the Computer Science inventory at UCD is a complex and time consuming process. Through the use of this procedure, the Systems Support Group (SSG) attempts to simplify the process and physically remove the equipment as quickly as possible, even though it may take months for the equipment to reach its final destination.

The goal of the procedure is to reduce the time the original request is received by SSG until the equipment is removed from its current location to less than one week.

Procedure:

1. Faculty Member, Staff Member or Researcher sends an e-mail to support2@cs.ucdavis.edu including:

a. Description of equipment
b. Serial number(s)
c. UC Davis Asset Tag number(s)
d. Location of equipment
e. Individual who originally purchased equipment (if known)
f. Funding source for original equipment purchase (if known)

2. SSG will research the equipment in the Inventory Database to determine funding source (disposition path is different depending on funding).
3. SSG will determine the original purchaser of the equipment and may verify the request for disposal with the original purchaser.
4. SSG will tag the equipment for pickup.
5. SSG will remove the equipment from its location.
