Advising Holds
To assist students to complete their program in a timely manner and to ensure that students are prepared for courses, advising holds will be placed on students' registration packets. The quarter of your advising hold will be based upon the first letter of your last name as listed below.
** It is strongly recommended that you NOT wait until the deadline, but instead have the hold lifted prior to finals of the given quarter of your hold - fall (A-G), winter (H-N), spring (O-Z).**
FALL 2008 ADVISING HOLDS (A-G)
A fall advising hold needs to be lifted by January 2, 2009. Failure to do so will prevent you from changing your schedule via SISWEB for Winter Quarter 2009. If the hold is not lifted by February 9, 2009 you will be unable to register for Spring Quarter 2009.
WINTER 2009 ADVISING HOLDS (H-N)
A winter advising holds needs to be lifted by March 26, 2009. Failure to do so will prevent you from changing your schedule via SISWEB for Spring Quarter 2009. If the hold is not lifted by May 1, 2009, you will be unable to register for Fall Quarter 2009.
SPRING 2098 ADVISING HOLDS (O-Z)
A spring advising holds needs to be lifted by September 21, 2009. Failure to do so will prevent you from changing your schedule via SISWEB for Fall Quarter 2009. If the hold is not lifted by October 28, 2009, you will be unable to register for Winter Quarter 2010.
It is very important that holds be lifted in time for Pass I registration since some ECS courses are restricted to majors during Pass I but not during Pass II.
Procedure for Lifting the Advising Hold
Before seeing a department faculty or staff adviser to have your hold lifted, you must do the following:
- Obtain written instructions on how to run OASIS, an automated prerequisite/degree check program, from the department’s main office (2063 Kemper Hall) or online at http://www.cs.ucdavis.edu/undergrad/oasis.html
- Using OASIS develop your academic plan. The plan needs to include: a) courses previously completed; b) current quarter course schedule; c) a listing of all courses planned for the next 3 quarters to satisfy university, college and department requirements (using the General Catalog, online information or the CS student handbook for information on prerequisites and for when courses tend to be offered).
- Print out your OASIS file in the Computer Science Instructional Facility (CSIF). The OASIS degree check is unofficial.
- Print out your grades that are online (http://sisweb.ucdavis.edu/) for each quarter enrolled at UC Davis.
- With your OASIS printout and grade reports in hand, meet with any CS faculty advisor or CS staff advisor (hours online at http://www.cs.ucdavis.edu/undergrad/pre-office.html). If you meet with a faculty advisor have your academic plan reviewed and signed by them and then bring the signed plan to Melinda Curry in 2063 Kemper. Josie Valdez will then release your hold.
Additionally, students may view their degree progress via the UC Davis Degree Navigator. The Degree Navigator information is unofficial in determining what has been completed and what is left to be completed for the B.S. degree.
