Advising Holds
To assist students to complete their program in a timely manner and to ensure that students are prepared for courses, advising holds will be placed on students' registration packets. The quarter of your advising hold will be based upon the first letter of your last name as listed below.
** It is strongly recommended that you NOT wait until the deadline, but instead have the hold lifted prior to finals of the given quarter of your hold - fall (A-G), winter (H-N), spring (O-Z).**
FALL 2012 ADVISING HOLDS (A-G)
A fall advising hold needs to be lifted by January 6, 2013. Failure to do so will prevent you from changing your schedule via SISWEB for Winter Quarter 2013. If the hold is not lifted by February 8, 2013 you will be unable to register for Spring Quarter 2013.
WINTER 2013 ADVISING HOLDS (H-N)
A winter advising holds needs to be lifted by March 29, 2013. Failure to do so will prevent you from changing your schedule via SISWEB for Spring Quarter 2013. If the hold is not lifted by April 29, 2013, you will be unable to register for Fall Quarter 2013.
SPRING 2013 ADVISING HOLDS (O-Z)
A spring advising holds needs to be lifted by September 24, 2013. Failure to do so will prevent you from changing your schedule via SISWEB for Fall Quarter 2013. If the hold is not lifted by October 25, 2013, you will be unable to register for Winter Quarter 2014.
It is very important that holds be lifted in time for Pass I registration since some ECS courses are restricted to majors during Pass I but not during Pass II.
Procedure for Lifting the Advising Hold
BEFORE seeing a department faculty or staff advisor to have your hold lifted, do the following:
- Print out your grades that are online (http://sisweb.ucdavis.edu/) for each quarter enrolled at UC Davis.
- Print and fill out the appropriate checklist, CS Checklist or CSE Checklist (with the aid of your grades report). CSE students must fill out the Academic Planning Worksheet as well.
- Develop quarterly academic plan, current quarter plus 2 more (using General Catalog, online information or the CS student handbook for information on prerequisites and for when courses tend to be offered).
- With your paperwork meet with any CS faculty advisor or CS staff advisor. If you meet with a faculty advisor have your academic plan signed by them and bring the signed plan to the CS office in 2063 Kemper Hall and your hold will be released.
