ECS 192/199 Procedures
The following procedure applies only to students wishing to complete 192/199 courses to satisfy a computer elective/computer science elective requirement. This procedure is in addition to enrolling in the course. Items #1 and #2 must be submitted to the undergraduate adviser NO LATER THAN THE FIRST DAY OF INSTRUCTION of the quarter of enrollment in the 192/199.
1. A proposal, as completed by the student and approved by the instructor, must be submitted via electronic mail (simple text) to Josie Valdez (valdez@cs.ucdavis.edu) summarizing the internship/project to be undertaken – see Guidelines for 192/199 Proposal and Final Report (links below). The proposal will be reviewed for approval/denial by the faculty of the Computer Science Undergraduate Affairs Committee. The student will be notified of the committee’s decision by electronic mail.
2. A petition requesting to use the 192/199 for a computer elective/computer science elective requirement. The petition can be obtained from the undergraduate adviser (CS majors) and the College of Engineering (CSE majors)
Computer Science
May complete ECS 192 or 199 (3 units from one course [192 or 199];
department approval).
Computer Science and Engineering
May complete ECS 192 or 199 or EEC 194 (3 units from one course
[192 or 199 or 194]; department approval).
3. A copy of the final internship/project report, as completed by the student and approved by the instructor, submitted by electronic mail (simple text) to Josie Valdez. Additionally, the student needs to submit the 192/199 instructor form as completed by the instructor. The report and instructor form must be submitted no later than the second day of finals for approval/denial by the Undergraduate Affairs Committee. Students will be notified by electronic mail of the decision made by the Undergraduate Affairs Committee.
For CSE students, the instructor’s documentation must include the units awarded for engineering science and engineering design and, if design units have been awarded, an engineering design statement. In addition to the Undergraduate Affairs Committee’s review, the petitions from CSE students will also be reviewed by the College Student Relations Committee.
4. The above procedure does NOT enroll the student in 192/199. To enroll, the 192/199 form must be completed. The form may be obtained from Melinda Day in 2063 Kemper. Once the form has been completed and all necessary signatures have been obtained, Melinda Day will issue the student a CRN to add the course by the add deadline.
