I enjoy seeing what other people get up to, so here is what I get up to.

Sports

On the sporting side I enjoy golf, cricket and volleyball. Unfortunately, I do not have the opportunity to play the later two anymore since its difficult to find teams. Golf is more amenable to a busy person and I try to play that as much as I can.  I took my first golf lessons after 5+ years of playing golf consistently and scoring in the 80’s for the last few years. It turns out I have been holding the club completely wrong! I am now going to spend a bit of time trying to fix this. My motivation comes when everything clicks together with the new grip and I can crush the ball much further than I could previously imagine.

Interests

I enjoy learning about history. I live in Albany which is a classic example of a once very important town (it was the on-ramp to the Erie canal) with an amazing wealth of history and architecture. My wife and I restored a 137 year old Brownstone which included everything from sanding back 10 inch wide heart pine floor boards to refinishing the cast-iron work on our coal burning fireplaces. Some images of the house in progress are available here.

I enjoy movies. My wife dragged me to the wonderful Stanford Theatre and now my preference is for classic (black and white) films. I am currently trying to see every movie to win the best movie Oscar. A list of these movies and my comments on some of the ones I’ve seen so far are here.

Family

My wife, Joulia, and my daughter, Constance, help me keep things in perspective.
