Lab 5: Excel Charts and Pivot Tables For this lab you will do three online tutorials supplied by Microsoft to help you to better understand how to use Excel 2003 charts and pivot tables. Go to: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/CR061831141033.aspx which has a list of the Microsoft Excel 2003 Courses. The four tutorials you will be doing are "Charts I: How to create a chart", "Charts II: Choose the right chart type", "Charts III: Create a professional-looking chart"; and "PivotTable I: What's so great about PivotTable reports?". You might have use Internet Explorer to run the tutorials since the most recent Firefox does not have a plug in for ActiveX controls yet. If you have troubles starting the program, you may have click the message bar of Internet Explorer to permit the download of the ActiveX program. When it comes to the first practice, you may have to follow the directions to have Excel auto-tile the browser. There are eight practice sessions in the four tutorials. After doing each practice session, before continuing with its tutorial you should save the Excel spreadsheet, and then close Excel. Please save the files with their default names which are listed below. "Charts I: How to create a chart" Tutorial Practice Session #1 = "Create a basic chart 1.xls" Practice Session #2 = "Tell the wizard what you want1.xls" "Charts II: Choose the right chart type" Tutorial Practice Session #1 = "Choose a chart type1.xls" Practice Session #2 = "Get more information in your charts1.xls" "Charts III: Create a professional-looking chart" Tutorial Practice Session #1 = "Make your chart more effective1.xls" Practice Session #2 = "Customize chart information1.xls" "Pivot Table I: What's so great about PivotTable reports?" Tutorial Practice Session #1 = "Create a PivotTable report1.xls" For Charts I, Practice 1, please do NOT delete the chart in Exercise 6. For Pivot Table I, Practice 1, do not do Exercise 5 in which you delete all of your work! To hand it in, create a zip file containing the seven files, and name it lab5.zip. In the labs, you can use the FilZip utility to create the zip file. Go to Start->All Programs->Utilities->FilZip. In FilZip, go to File->New Archive, and create lab5.zip on the Desktop. Click the Add (+) button and select the files. Note that you must click two Add buttons before they are added to the archive. Save your zip file in MySpace. Use the e-drop for lab 5 in MyUCDavis so submit your zip file. After submitting the zip file, you are done. Don't forget to use the Start button to logout from the lab computers!
