I graduated from Columbia University in 1995, and my advisor was
Professor Gail E. Kaiser. My PhD thesis is titled "Epsilon-Consistent
Real-Time Monitoring for Rapidly Changing Data." I was a faculty member
in the Computer Science department at Columbia University from 1994 to 1995,
and NC State University from 1995 to 2000 before joining UC Davis.
I got my undergraduate degree in computer science from Tunghai University,
Taichung in 1985, and my MS degree also in computer science from Columbia
University in 1989.
the Belief .......

be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
To be honest with you, I feel that it is relatively easy today, especially
in US, for me to say "I am a Christian" (comparing to what happened in the
first two centuries, and I am not sure I will be courageous enough to say
it in certain parts of the world). But, that doesn't really say a lot about
my belief and my relationship with our Lord. In this respect, I am still a
student and I will be more than happy to discuss with others who are
interested in learning more about the truth from His words.

hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man."
I have graduated 22 PhD students and numerous MS/undergraduate students from three different schools: NC State University, BTH, and UC Davis. I am currently
advising about 11 PhD students (4 of them should finish very soon). It is my
blessing to have the opportunity to work with each one of them. They
each brought to me a different personality and character, and I, then,
have the chance to know them and to learn how to build a friendship and
relationship with them, before and after of their graduation. Having
them interacting with me in research and in others is my biggest reward as
a professor.

In US and in other parts of the world, we have seen that
so many families/couples went through serious struggles about their
bitter relationship and eventually chose to (and, in many cases, were
unwillingly forced to) divorce. Whenever I heard people going through
that painful process, my heart felt sad -- it is a broken relationship.
My wife Grace and I have four kids: Daniel (23), Elizabeth (20), Esther (17),
and Timothy (16). And, believe me or not -- we had and still have a lot of
struggles, almost everyday and every moment. I was discouraged when being
criticized or challenged by the ones (i.e., spouse, kids, and other friends)
I love and care. Gradually, through such "negative" experiences, I learned
(I am a slow learner, BTW) that I am imperfect, my spouse is not perfect,
and none of our kids are perfect as well. And, the truth is that this fact
itself is perfectly OK and now positive to me! It is not merely about
humbleness. It amazes me that a bunch of imperfect persons, via this
special family relationship, can share the perfect and abundant love from
above. This is precious to me, and far beyond my limited
understanding.
It's about the relationship among us -- tear/joy, agree/disagree,
bitter/sweet, and yet, loving/hoping together as a family! It is
about our relationship with Him that we all need to experience.
