Awards and Honors

14) Winner of Best Paper Award at ACM/ ICST BodyNets 2013: Winner of Best Paper Award at 8th International Conference on Body Area Networks 2013 for paper titled "Energy Expenditure Estimation Using Smartphone Body Sensors". The main conference has an acceptance rate of 35%. There were over 100 papers presented in the conference.

13) Excellence in Postdoctoral Research: Awarded "Excellence in Postdoctoral Research" by UC Davis in 2012 for exceptional performance in post-doctoral research. This award was given to 3 scholar from 21 finalists among a pool of 1000+ post-doctoral research scholars at UC Davis.

12) Design Contest Winner at 25th IEEE International Conference on VLSI Design, 2012: The entry "Hardware Architecture for Pairwise Statistical Significance Estimation in Bioinformat- ics Problems" was awarded as the "Design Contest Winner" at 25th IEEE International Conference on VLSI Design, Hyderabad, 3-7 January 2012. There were more than 24 entries all around the globe in the competition. It was co-authored with researchers from Northwestern University, USA.

11) Winner of Best Paper Award at WPMC, 2011: Winner of Best Paper Award at 14th International Symposium on Wireless PersonalMultimedia Communications 2011 for work titled “Investigation of Scalable Video Delivery using H.264 SVC on an LTE Network”. It was co-authored with researchers from University College Dublin, Ireland and University of Pisa, Italy. Only 2 of the accepted 120 papers were given this distinction.

10) Featured in CCC Blog: Featured on Computing Community Consortium (CCC) Blog “A Whos Who Among the CIFellows” for pursuing groundbreaking research. 11 of the 107 NSF Computing Innovation Fellows were featured in this blog in two entries - representing the top CI Fellows who are pursuing ground-breaking computing research

9) Winner of Zaffarano Award at Iowa State University, USA: Awarded Zaffarano Prize for Graduate Student Research (Honorable mention) by Iowa State University, 2011. A committee appointed by the Graduate Dean selects the student whose publishable research record while at ISU (amongst 5000+ students) is most worthy of this prize. Am the second student from Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (@ISU) to get this university-wide award in 22 years.

8) Honored as IOWA STATEment maker, 2010: IOWA STATEment maker is an honor that recognizes the early personal and professional accomplishments and contributions to society of Iowa State University’s young alumnus (graduates under 32 years of age). Awarded by ISU Alumni Association, 2010

7) Awarded Computing Innovation Fellowship, 2010: Won the highly competitive Computing Innovation Fellowship, awarded by NSF/ CRA/ CCC to recent Ph.D. graduates in Computer Science and related fields. In three years (2010-12), 127 CI Fellows were chosen in 3 years from over 800+ applicants across 78 Ph.D. granting institutions in USA.

6) Winner of Research Excellence Award by Iowa State University, 2010: Winner of Research Excellence Award at Iowa State University (2010) that recognizes outstanding research accomplishments of graduating students. About top 5% of graduating students are given this distinction.

5) Design Contest Winner (3) at 22nd International Conference on VLSI Design, 2009: The entry "Novel Polymorphic Reconfigurable Hardware Support for Discrete Wavelet Transform" was awarded as the "Design Contest Winner, 3rd position" at 22nd IEEE International Conference on VLSI Design, New Delhi, 5-9 January 2009. Was presented with a memento, certificate of merit and a cash prize of 10,000 INR at the awards distribution banquet. There were more than 20 entries all around the globe in the competition.

4) Winner of Institute Silver Medal from IIT Roorkee, 2007: The project titled "Ensuring multimedia QoS over scarce resource networks" was selected as best major project in Electronics and Computer Science Department and awarded with Institute Silver Medal by Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee in 2007.

3) Agilent Engineering and Technology Award Winner 2007, India: 3rd Winner at India Innovation Initiative (i-3) India (formerly, Agilent Engineering and Technology Award) amongst top engineering institutions of India in 2007. The project titled "Ensuring multimedia QoS over scarce resource networks" was awarded third best project for innovativeness and relevance to welfare of society

2) Summer Undergraduate Research Award, IIT Roorkee: The project titled "Content-adaptive multimedia compression for high end applications" was awarded with Certificate of Merit for Summer Undergraduate Research Award (SURA 2005) at IIT Roorkee.

1) Regional Mathematics Olympiad Winner, India: Awarded third position in Regional Mathematics Olympiad, Uttaranchal (2002) organized by the National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
