Lovely student study sheets I spotted just before the final exam. Thanks for sharing!
Grades have been posted; our class is done. Grading was especially difficult this term because of an unusual number of students who didn’t take the final exam—they had given up in the class. Never having seen this, it wasn’t clear to me what that should imply for the grades of the students who did complete the class. What I ended up doing was to push some other grades up, especially near the bottom of the class, compared to where I thought they belonged. I’m not at all clear why this big bump in the number of students who gave up on the class, as little changed since I last taught the class (e.g., I’ve always had homework problems beyond the reach of many students, and I have rarely followed closely any textbook).
I enjoyed teaching the class this term, feeling more relaxed than usual. I even managed to learn to recognize quite a few students in the class, which is unusual for me. Some people seemed really interested and engaged, and to have liked the challenging problems and the lecture style. Some people knew they weren’t getting the material very well, but seemed to be really trying hard, which certainly counts to me. A few of you, I know, only landed in the class because it was impossible to get into an elective that you would have preferred, and for that I am sorry.
A few of you I will be seeing next term in ECS 188, which will be a radically different experience. For all of you, good luck with all you do (unless it’s something best not done!), and enjoy the coming of spring.

Practice exam (final from 2011). It looks like we covered everything but 1.4, 2.1. I don’t thing I used the term ElGamal encryption; I refer to PK encryption directly based on DH SKE. I’ll probably cover i 6.3 and 6.4 on Friday.
